Green Bar

How one Bahrain-based skincare line is redefining the way women approach beauty in the Middle East
There’s a jumble of half opened bottles and tubes of moisturizers (many past their expiry date) cramming the shelves of your bathroom cabinet. But Reem Al-Khalifa is determined to take the guesswork out of your daily beauty regimen. The young Bahraini is the entrepreneur behind Green Bar, an extraordinary line of organic skincare products and fragrances.

Since launching Green Bar in 2006, Al Khalifa has gained a following amongst a discerning clientele through word of mouth. By day she’s a university professor, teaching graphic design and photography. While by night Reem, who worked closely with a California-based perfumist, can be found testing new formulas and ingredients for her line of aromatic body oils and moisturizers.

Made in Bahrain using only certified natural ingredients, Green Bar’s beauty offerings are designed to cleanse the body of impurities without the added harmful chemicals and artificial fragrances that dry out and irritate skin. The result is radiant skin that glows.
Al-Khalifa’s approach to skincare is nothing close to clinical, as products in her line are designed to pamper and introduce healthy habits to ones daily beauty regimen. At Green Bar a fragrance isn’t merely a perfume, but serves double duty as a light moisturizer to sooth and smooth skin. Recently, Al-Khalifa launched a new perfumed body oil called Frangipani. The scent is derived from the flowers of the Frangipani tree that is found throughout Bahrain.

In addition to launching one of the few organic skincare lines to have emerged out of the Middle East, Reem has made it her mission to create a sustainable and environmentally responsible business. She oversees every aspect of her skincare brand, including the design of the packaging, which comes in minimalist recyclable brown-tinted glass bottles.

Al-Khalifa has been careful to stock her environmentally friendly products at retailers that share her philosophy. In Bahrain her line can be found at the cutting edge J Boutique, as well as Flawless, one of the island’s chicest beauty emporiums. For those who can’t make it to Bahrain, Al Khalifa’s skincare products are also available online at Green Bar’s website, as well as www.dia-boutique.com.
Reem also regularly updates Green Bar’s website for her devotees with helpful hints and articles covering everything from reviving healthy shine to hair, to recipes for breakfasts containing wrinkle-busting ingredients.
