From the Vogue Archives: Folie Desertique

Vogue August 1965

In 1965, Vogue flew two of Paris’ chicest women, Baronne Thierry van Zulen and Madame Jean-Claude Abreu, to Egypt to be photographed in the shadow of the Sphinx.

While in Cairo the two stayed with their friend Madame Nahed Batanouni. On arrival at Giza they were greeted by bolts of shimmering fabric shipped from New York, huge hair pieces from Paris, and sculpted jewelry from Rome. The result was a series of fantastical images styled by the two Parisian beauties in the middle of the Egyptian desert.
